 We all get tons of email each and every day and most of it is junk or spam. Even if you opt in it can still be junk mail being bombarded with sales pitches.

So let’s go over 2 mistakes I think ruin an email campaign.

1). Buying email lists from vendors who sell email leads. You can spend lots of money on these lists with little or no results. Believe me I have spent money on lists with very little and sometimes no results at all.

First of all these email lists have been probably sold many times over so these people have no idea who you are or what you are about. So to them your email is spam. It is a huge shot in the dark, why take the chance. They are probably getting bombarded with messages from other people who have bought the same list.

This way is not very effective or even cost effective. The best way is to build your own list of subscribers with an opt in form on your website or blob. Most people now actually build their own list. This way these people know you are and what to expect and it is not in danger of being spam.

You want people to look forward to your email not look forward to deleting it.

2). Another huge mistake is not providing quality information to your reader. If it just a continuous sales pitch email after email people unsubscribe. I actually opt in for a free ebook or some other information and then the sales pitch never ends.

Now I am ok with a pitch but not 3 or 4 times a week or even everyday. Give me some quality information I can use then later a link to a product or service. Most of the time I get an endless barrage of affiliate links with no good information. At that point I just unsubscribe. I want substance first then a sales pitch is ok.

If it is just some kind of pitch you start feeling like a dollar sign. I have opted out of some of the biggest marketers online lists because the sales pitches never ends.

People want quality information, if you give them that they will look forward to your email. You want people to stay on your list not unsubscribe. I may do a pitch once or twice a month and that is it. The rest is good marketing information people can use right away for their own marketing efforts.

In summary these are the 2 biggest mistakes I see people making when it comes to email marketing. Build your own list and provide people with quality information. Don’t abuse your list nuture it. There are a lot more things that need to be done to do an email campaign right, but these two are a really good start.
